🎥 ...and thats a wrap on 'Supercars of Wakey', a mokumentary TV pilot directed by Tony Pitts, starring plenty of names like Leigh Francis (Keith Lemon), Katherine Kelly (Criminal: UK) & Neil Maskell (Utopia).
I have to thanks DoP Esther Vardy for bringing me in on this one to support her. I originally came on as a Cam Op, but had to step in as deputy DoP on 2 key days with no prep. This was only possible with the way in which we were shooting and the fact that I had a day and a half with the DoP seeing how she lit the scenes. The lighting & camera team stepped up as well and we smashed it out all with some lovely results.
Esther did a great job of pulling the lighting kit together to tackle a space that had lots of windows and natural light coming in. We were going for something quite natural so the lighting was there to bring a little shape and pop to the subjects.
This simpler approach allowed me to improvise the lighting when I was on deputy duties and move fast.
We worked with a large HMI source through a 12x12 diffusion frame as our main fill, then supplemented this Skypannels and Aputure 600d's to find an edge to the characters. Mainly working with a daylight balance in tandem with the natural light.
We shot on 2 x Sony Fx6's with Sony zooms in order to move fast and capture reactions in less takes. These camera's really are the kings of versatility and perfect this kind of run and gun way of shooting.
The project will work as a proof of concept looking to get green lit in the future. It's a really funny project that I hope gets the go-ahead soon.
