Pricing & Budget
How much does video production cost?
Simply put I work on a day rate system. In the EU this can range anywhere between €800-€1300 a day for filming labour & kit.
The reason this range is so wide varies on the type of production. I sometimes go out with just my camera and film videography style content. A lot of the time I go out with a large lighting package and shoot more creative projects. So I take into account the skillset type I'm tapping into, and the amount of kit I am bringing with me.
A lot of the time this rate lands somewhere in the middle as clients wants me to handle more of the technical side of things. I charge per day for myself with kit, and usually bring a full package of cameras, lenses, audio and lights.
I then may also ask a fee for any pre-production if there's any creative work or planning, or location scouts that needs to be done up front.
Editing will be factored in on a separate rate and I will charge the amount of days necessary. This comes in anywhere between €450-€550 a day.
On top of this there might be things like hiring additional crew like camera assistants, sound mixers and lighting techs. As well as travel costs and additional equipment hire if I do not have a specific bit of kit myself.
Once I know more about the particular project I will provide a quote based on what I think is necessary. Sometimes this will be a budget that covers just me shooting for the day and handing over the footage, other times the whole production process will be considered. Similar to a production company, I am capable of managing end-to-end productions.

My Process
Do you edit?
Yes! I have treated camera & editing as one skillset since I was at school. Editing is my secondary skillset and I prefer to only edit my own content. So I'm not typically and editor for hire. But will over 20 years of experience working with editing programs I am very capable of adding this as part of my offering.
There's a sizable amount of work on this sight I've edited. From 10 minute branded docs, to tight promos & music videos.
Do you direct?
Yes! I love working with other directors and producers to realise their visions, and think I'm at my strongest when supporting someone else's vision. However directing does come naturally to me, and I have taken great pleasure in directing most of the documentary projects I have undertaken. This is because I love meeting new people and exploring ideas and learning more.
A lot of the time I step into the role if someone is unsure of their creative vision and needs help executing the brief.
Do you travel for shoots?
Yes!
I regularly travel locally and internationally. There's always a judgement call with how much kit we travel with. Sometimes it's cheaper to hire locally than to pay baggage fees. Between the UK & Netherlands I have kit in both countries which reduces the load.
I've travelled all around Europe and to the US multiple times for work, and enjoy travelling in my spare time too.
Can you source additional crew?
I work with lots of talented crew in various roles. Each project is different and I can't always do everything myself. So I surround myself with an amazing team whenever possible
Technical & Deliverables
What camera and equipment do you use?
In-house I work with high-end professional cameras such as the Sony Fx6 & Sony Fx3. I also have a lot of experience shooting with Alexa, Red & Canon camera systems.
I have Sony G Master Zooms for day-to-day shooting. As well as DZO Vespid Cine Primes to those more composed shoots.
I also have my own lighting & rigging package, everything you'd need to light a space or a nice looking interview.
On top of this I have a gimbal, Easyrig & shoulder mount.

Do you edit the videos in-house or outsource it?
For the most part I edit my own content in-house. However now and again I do work closely with some partners who can help me with the work load or if they have a particular editing skillset I do not have.
I also work purely as a shooter, and regularly hand over the footage to the collaborating production company / director to edit themselves.
On bigger projects I might choose to collaborate with external specialists for projects requiring niche effects or animation.
Rights & Usage
Do I own the rights to the video?
In most standard agreements, once the final payment is made, the client owns the full rights to the final video. I reserve the right to share and use the content in my portfolio once the film has been made public.
Can I get all the raw files?
I can provide raw footage upon request, though some may charge an additional fee for organizing and transferring large data files. It is best to discuss this requirement before the project begins.
Hardrives & long term storage
I usually request the client source their own hardrive if they want to store the footage for future use. Once I have edited the final content I don't hold onto footage in my own drives after 6 months, unless otherwise agreed.
How do you source music for the videos?
I typically use royalty-free music libraries to save time and budget while ensuring legal compliance. For high-budget projects requiring a unique sound, I can commission custom music from professional composers.
